OYSTER FARMING ON THE

DELAWARE BAY

· Pieces of shell are spread on the floor of company grounds in the Delaware Bay. This is done in late June/early July when the water temperatures are perfect for attracting oyster set while the oysters are spawning. They may spawn several times depending on weather conditions.

· Once oysters spawn they release free swimming larvae which travel with the water column and hopefully find a home on the deposited shell.

· Within 10-14 days they settle to the bottom and look for something to attach to.

· By late fall the oyster set will look like “baby” oysters.

· They will grow for approximately 3 years when they will be ready for harvest.
